Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon: my review

You all know how it is difficult to find a good eye liner. There are soft eye pencils perfect for smoky eyes but they usually don’t last a lot. Then there are waterproof eye liner which are perfect for lining your upper lids but they can’t be smudged out for a softer look. And it is extremely difficult to find an eye liner with a good colour payoff onto the waterline.

Then there are gel eyeliners. I’m deeply in love with gel eyeliners, seriously. My favourites are MAC Cosmetics Fluidlines: they last for ages under every condition. Not only for ages but from ages, also: they’re creamy as the first day I bought them even after years. I can use them as classic eyeliner, under my eye, on the waterline and I can smudge them to create a smoky look before they set. They’re amazing also as a base.

But you know, an eye pencil is always the most handy item you can think about. You can throw in to your bag and carry it everywhere and you don’t need a brush.

As you can see, you can guess the colour from the naming.

I chose Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Th(ink). My attention has been immediately caught by this colour. Th(ink) is the most beautiful indigo I’ve seen so far. A mix between blue and purple but this one has more deep blue tones in it and only purplish undertones and reflects mixed up with teeny tiny shimmers. This is an automatic retractable pencil, with a little sharpener in the back. The gel texture is extremely smooth and glides on without efforts. The colour payoff is really great, especially if you consider that blue / purple colours have often a weak pigmentation due to their pigment. This Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon is completely differente from anything I’ve tried before: colour is rich and intense, even and don’t get clumpy.

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon‘s colour payoff has the same intensity if you use it as eyeliner or on the waterline. It can be smudged and softened but once it’s set it’s completely smudgeproof and waterprooof. So you can use it in multiple ways: as a classic eyeliner, as a kohl, to define your lower lids or even as a coloured base. Shimmers are so tiny that I didn’t experienced any trouble or irritation.

I tested it in any condition, even during super hot days or workout sessions. No sweat can budge this Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon. I’m really impressed. If you put it in the morning it will last without any problem until night. To remove it I like using Bioderma Crealine micellar water but every biphasic make up remover should be fine.
