Fall is coming (Stark, be patient!) and for Mac cosmetics there’s no fall without Mattene.
These lipsticks are becoming an awaited appointment for Mac lovers. Indeed, Mattene was launched for the first time in 2007 and everyone are wondering: why aren’t they permanent??
So loved, and still limited edition. Sad true story.
I decided to do a review about my only Mattene, Fresh Amour (from 2011 Posh Paradise collection) because Style Seeker (info) has just arrived in U.S. and it will hit Italian stores on friday.
A lost girl (loves make up!) had the same idea: you can find on her blog a review on another Mattene.
So, I hope I can give to you an idea about this lovely formula.
Mattene’s packaging is different from Mac’s classic bullet. Mattenes come in a sleek tube, with less amount than regular lipsticks but at same price (last year, 18 euro).
Formula is quite strange and totally different from what I’ve ever tried. Mattenes are a mix between matte and cream finish.
Texture is
- really thin
- glides on easily
- completely opaque
- creamy and matte at the same time.
Mattene Fresh Amour is extremely soft and comfortable on lips. It’s not moisturizing but it doesn’t dry out. It tends to mark any lips’ imperfection so you have to exfoliate them first.
Fresh Amour is and incredibly colour. No dupable at all, I think. It is a true lavender, neither more nor less.
It’s a bit cooler irl.
You have to like pale purple lips, indeed. Yes, it’s eccentric. Yes, I deal with it.
I think it’s more flattering on brunettes with fair skin. To avoid oddity, pair it with a warm blush to balance extremely cool lips or try to pair it with a warm rose lip pencil: lovely result!
My Mattene’s lasting power is good: 6 hours but if you eat you have to reapply.

Ecco, Fresh Amour è una meraviglia nonché uno di quei colori che mi piacerebbero tanto ma che purtroppo mi stanno male, ma anzi che dico non male, di più! Non c’è proprio verso di renderli portabili (do la colpa al mio sottotono spiccatamente caldo). Peccato…Mi spiace un po’ non aver acquistato i Mattene lo scorso anno perché c’erano tonalità che preferisco rispetto a quelle proposte quest’anno (bello Delectable, ma devo limitarmi coi pesca-arancio-beige pescato e simili).
@AleDottedAround è molto particolare, sì. abbinare a questi colori una matita rosa caldo o sul berry aiuta un po’ 🙂
i Mattene dell’anno passato erano mooooolto più carini, hai ragione! ne avrei dovuto prendere un altro paio ç__ç Delectable è carino, ma troppo arancione su di me.
