Sparks of Romance Lipstick – MAC Heirloom Mix

Sparks of Romance lipstick is part of Heirloom Mix, MAC Cosmetics‘ Holiday 2014 collection. Heirloom Mix lipsticks are the most interesting products from this collection in my opinion, alongside with mini pressed pigments if you like the formula, of course. I must confess, I’m not a big fan of that dry formula and it seems quite hard to get maximum pigmentation. Though I only swatched them at the store with my fingers. I never tried this formula at home with all my bases and brushes so they might be beautiful applied correctly.

Heirloom Mix lipsticks are No Faux Pas, a bright hot pink, Rebel, already in permanent collection, Salon Rouge a deep berry red, Tribalist, a deep plum and Sparks of Romance, a matte red with tiny micro-glitters. I was pretty sure to get Salon Rouge since it’s my kind of favourite colour. Nevertheless when I tried it on my lips I didn’t feel any ‘woah!” effect, especially because I previously tried Sparks of Romance and I just couldn’t get it off my mind.  On me Salon Rouge is a very deep berry red, with a lot of cool undertones. Compared to it Sparks of Romance seemed almost warm at a first glance.

Sparks of Romance is a quite unique colour. It has a ‘matte frost’ finish, that is to say a matte finish with teeny tiny micro-glitters. These glitters are quite sparingly and barely visible so the texture is not gritty at all. Colour is described as a true red. I can see its coolness but there is some warmth in it. Maybe it is due to its iridiscent shimmers. It is really similar to Viva Glam Rihanna I except for the finish of course but the latter is a tad deeper. Sparks of Romance is a bright, cherry red. Glitters reflect light in a subtle way. Despite the fact it is a matte its texture is smooth, it doesn’t bleed and it doesn’t need a lip liner underneath. However if you want a super precise effect it pairs really well with MAC Cherry lip pencil. Mine are only first impressions of course, but I wore it during this weekend and it lasted until 9 hours. It stayed perfect even after several drinks, meals etc.

Here it is a comparison among Sparks of Romance, Ruby Woo, Viva Glam I and Nars Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. If you like Ruby Woo, you’ll probably Sparks of Romance too.

You can still find Sparks of Romance in all MAC stores and online. Since it has a special packaging it costs €21.
