Nars Audacious Lipsticks: Lana & Audrey
I think it’s already time to talk about one of the top product of 2014-2015 in beauty world. I’m talking about Nars Audacious Lipsticks. I’ve waited for a long time before writing this review because, well, I haven’t seen any miracle in these lipsticks and I wanted to be as objective as possible. Don’t get me wrong: Nars Audacious Lipsticks are excellent lipsticks. But all that hype made me a bit perplexed.
I bought my first Nars Audacious after some time the big launch. I have so many lipsticks and I’m so in love with MAC Cosmetics formula that I rarely look for other options. I am very, very fussy when it comes to lipsticks. I prefer them with a matte or satin finish, they have to be opaque and they absolutely have to stay on for many hours since I hate touch-ups. Of course, they don’t have to bleed either.
Nars Audacious Lipsticks are pricey. €30 for a lipstick is a lot, especially when I’m in my comfort zone with a €19 lipstick (hello MAC). I decided to by Nars Audacious Audrey because I had a 20% discount at Sephora and I immediately fell in love with its colour. Audrey is quite hard to describe but it is so me. It is a deep berry with a smoky brown underton which I find really flattering with my complexion and colour. Be aware if you like bright, cool berry colours because this one has a strong deep, smoky tint to it which may turn too brownish on some complexions.
Some months later I received Nars Audacious Lana* as press sample. This is a unusual colour for me. It is an extremely bright orangey red. At first I had some trouble to make it work for me but then I started to like it a lot. I have some problems when it comes to orange: I have to find the right combination of colours to make it look good on me. This one is a statement lipstick so it need to be balanced with well defined eyes. On me, a nude eye look with this lipstick was a disaster. I really like it with a strong black or blue smoky eye or with MAC Mineralize Duo Eyeshadows in Spiced Metal.
What about the formula. Nars Audacious Lipsticks have an amazing colour payoff. They go really opaque so they’re very good if you have pigmented lips. They deliver a lot of colour with only one layer. Therefore you have to pay attention to not overstep your lipline. They haven’t a buttery, slippery texture but it is very creamy, indeed, so I prefer using a lip liner. I think this is the only downside of these lipsticks. They’re not the lipsticks you choose when you’re on the go because the need a little of attention during application.
However, the formula is really comfortable on lips since they’re not drying at all. At the same, time they adhere well to lips and they stays on for several hours, even after meals. I think I’d compare them to MAC Satin lipsticks, only with a creamier, more comfortable formula.
