Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner: first impressions

Hi! Today’s post is about the new launch from Benefit Cosmetics: the Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner*. I received this new eyeliner in travel size form from Benefit Cosmetics Italy in order to write my impressions about it. Along with the Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner I received – in travel size as well – They’re Real! mascara*.

Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner

Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up liner is something I’ve never seen before. It’s a gel liner in pen form. I’m in love with gel liners in pots, such as MAC Cosmetics Blacktrack so I was really curious to try this one.

This is the claim from Benefit Cosmetics:

It’s the FIRST EVER lash-hugging gel liner in a pen! This matte black gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex™ Tip hugs your lashline from corner to corner. The closer the line, the bigger the eye!

Let’s talk about packaging. It has a twist base so you can ‘push up’ – hence the name – the gel liner to tip. The tip is angled and it seems a sort of rubber texture, called AccuFlex™ and it is quite flexible. Gel liner formula is really dense and thick, nothing comparable to MAC Blacktrack or Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner which both have a thinner texture and more gel-like. Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up liner‘s texture is more similar to rubber, just like its tip.

This is a huge amount of product!

It may seem tricky to apply but you have to think about it as a normal angled eyeliner brush. You only have to put alongside your lashline and track a line. For first-time use, you have to remove orange tip protector. Then you have to twist Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up liner  base 8-10 times until gel is delivered to tip. The only thing you have to be careful is to push a tiny amount of liner. If there’s an excess of product remove it with a tissue if you don’t want a big mess 😀

I find that Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up liner is really easy to apply despite its strange form, I have only to find the right angle but it’s even less tricky and a lot quicker than a normal angled brush I think, at least for my eye shape.  With this one you can have a medium-thick line. If you prefer ultra-thin lines you’d better use traditional liquid eyeliner with calligraphic tip. But I prefer bold lines so I’m really ok with it. Another good point is that colour is a matte carbon black, as black as MAC Blacktrack.

It’s really long lasting even in hot temperatures but on me it’s not completely smudgeproof even it’s waterproof. Be sure to remove any remaining product from tip before using.

You can see how it performs on my eyes in this simple cat-eye liner look.
