Hi! As you already seen in one of my latest post with an ideal Holiday Wishlist with some great (imho) gift ideas, I recently purchased the infamous Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette. Well, not so recently, since it’s dropped into my basket the same day it appeared on Spacenk. It’s a new launch from Hourglass Cosmetics for this Holiday 2013 and I do think this is one of my best purchase ever.
So, what is Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette? It is a limited edition trio of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders collection and it contains two existing best-selling shades – Dim Light and Radiant Light – and one new limited edition shade, Incandescent Light. With this palette it is also included a 5ml-size Veil Mineral Primer and it seems it’s the most beloved make up primer.
Maybe you are wondering what special features Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders have. They are not mattifying, oil control powders, so they’re not properly a setting powder. They are specifically finishing powders, with different corrective purposes. This concept is really similar to T. Leclerc powders (you can see them here) and kinda like the Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder (review coming soon), but with a more radiant and luminous finish and without the colour correcting effect.
This is the official description: Powders capture, diffuse and soften the way light is reflected on skin, brighten the appearance, and conceal imperfections, pores and wrinkles. Unlike traditional powders that use opaque pigments, Ambient utilises “photoluminescent technology”-micron-size,soft-focus particles that refract light and create transparent coverage. Universal powders make them suitable for every skin tone.
This powder is the most difficult product I’ve ever photographed, because it’s extremely hard to capture the subtle glow. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder gives a “blurred” effect minimizing pores and imperfections. It’s also a skintone corrector and the finish is so radiant, youthful and luminous but not dewy or shimmery. A subtle glow as I previously said. I could describe the effect only with these words: amazingly beautiful, flawless skin.
The great thing about this palette is that you get three different colours which can be used in order to obtain a three-dimensional accentuated effect (you know, foundation always flattens facial features) playing with lights and shadows or you can use them mixed up for a warming, enlighting glow. Each powder works differently under various lights.
Dim Light is a peach based colour and it’s best suited to blur imperfections and little discolorations.
Radiant Light is a bronzed apricot with goes surprisingly light and subtle. It’s perfect also on very fair skins and it warms up the complexion.
Incadescent Light is an enlighting shade with light-reflective particles.
