Nabla Cosmetics Genesis Collection

You may have noticed that a new brand appeared on Kenderasia. I’m talking about Nabla Cosmetics, a young indie Italian cosmetic brand. I previously talked about it here and here. But you may have seen it even on my Most Played and Favourites posts series and on Kenderasia‘s Italian version.

Nabla Cosmetics has just celebrated its 1st birthday and some days ago they launched Genesis Collection. Genesis Collection is inspired by nature and its colours: from deep, tumultuous ocean to precious, multi-dimensional minerals hidden into mountains. Sometimes they seem to be in contrast but if you look well, they are all harmonious when paired together. I find Genesis Collection so well-thought, with an elegant and sophisticated concept. All colours are well balanced and perfect to be paired together in unusual combinations. There are bold colours and basic ones, metallic sheens and smooth matte textures, all combined beautifully.

Genesis Collection is made of 8 eyeshadows, also availble as refills to build your own customized palette. Nabla sells empty palettes called Liberty Palettes for 6 or 12 refills. They’re very similar to Z Palettes. When you buy 6 Nabla refills you get a free Liberty Six Palette; when you buy 12 refills you get a free Liberty Twelve Palette.

I bought 6 Genesis Collection refills so I got a free palette to put them in. All photos are taken in natural light, bare swatches on NC15 skin.

 

Here there are colours I chose:

• Eternity: is described as a dark, bold Prussian blue, with Bright (pearlized, metallic) finish. I’d describe it as a cobalt blue, the same colour as sapphires. It is one of the most beautiful blue I’ve ever seen, so intense. Its texture is really smooth as other Nabla Bright eyeshadows, not powdery at all, very blendable and with a great colour payoff. It is perfect for smoky eyes or paired with contrasting colour such as Petra, from Genesis Collection.

 

• Superposition: this is the only limited edition shade in Nabla range since it is a special creation for Christmas. It is described a hazel-based duochrome with a purple lavender shimmer, like a delicate amethist. It is really an amethist in eyeshadow form. I see a mauve base with lavender duochrome and teal shimmers. It doesn’t have fall-outs and a good pigmentation, since this kind of colours is usually an awful amount of glitters with no colour payoff. I’m absolutely in love with these mauvey, purplish taupes and it is a great add to my collection. It looks lovely in the inner corner to brighten the eye or on entire lid paired with both warm (Mimesis) or cool (Eternity) colours to deepen the crease.

 

• Grenadine: a deep, rich and sensual pomegranate red with Satin (less metallic than Bright) finish. I see it as a pomegranate red with a rusty base and berry reflects. Red eyes are big trend for this season and I found that these reddish to berry and burgundy eyeshadows go really well with my warm and fair complexion. They make my brown eyes more intense and, if you fear the ‘vampire effect’ you only have to define well your eyes with black or dark brown to avoid a washed out effect; then a good under-eye concealer is essential. It has a great colour payoff even it is less metallic than Eternity. I love it paired with deeper burgundy shades, Mimesis or Eternity to create an amazing contrast.

 

• Narciso: is described as a light, delicate nude brown. A hazel pastel brown with pale pink undertones with Soft Matte finish. At first sight it may appear as a common shade but if you look well it is pretty peculiar since it is very difficult to find a neutral shade so perfect for a peach undertone. It is the most perfect transition colour for fair-light, warm and neutral complexions you can think about. I’m using it every single day to blend all colours to my upper crease. Beautiful with all shades, both warm and cools and it makes a perfect pair with Petra for a warm, natural eye make up.

 

• Petra: is described as a medium sienna with Soft Matte finish. I’m in love with Nabla Soft Mattes. They haven’t a terrific colour payoff, but they have a sort of translucent effect when applied lightly. Though they do not have poor pigmentation, they’re supposed to be ‘soft’ because they’re perfect as transition shades. The result is smooth, well-blended, without big spots of colour. Petra is an essential shade for warm complexion to brighten up every eye look. It looks lovely as a crease colour and blended with Narciso above. Perfect to soften a smoky eye.

 

• Mimesis: is described as a deep red-purple with Soft Matte finish. It is a matte blackened plum. Even if it is a real colour, I tend to consider matte plums as neutral shades because they are perfect to add a bit of personality to natural eye make up. It is perfect for a smoky eye, to deepen the crease or as a soft liner. It adds depth and definition without being harsh. I love it with Petra and Narciso, Grenadine and Superposition.

 

What I like the most about Nabla eyeshadows is their softeness, their amazing blendability, their colour payoff and their lack of powderness and fall-outs. They’re also really cheap!
