A Novel Romance Haul – Part II

In the colour story post dedicated to this collection I’ve already said how much I loved MAC A Novel Romance Collection, both for products and concept. When A Novel Romance collection came out I hurried myself to get two lipsticks: Hearts Aflame and Lingering Kiss (you can see them here). In my country all that MAC hype bursted only recently and it seems that all hysteria is directed towards lipsticks only. I do think that lipsticks are a top product from MAC but I can’t understand why people seem to not recognize how many other excellent products there are. I got two lipsticks because I knew they’d sold out quickly and I delayed other purchases hoping that I could find something later (and when I’d have some money to splurge!). Aside from lipsticks, I’ve fallen in love with two quads, A Passionate Quest and An Amorous Adventure and Electric Cool eyeshadows, which are an underrated repromote.

I’ve been really lucky to get a 20% off at Rinascente‘s counter because of my birthday so when I saw A Novel Romance display with a lot of products yet I really couldn’t resist. Lovely MUA suggested me to get A Passionate Quest with my colours and she was able to find last Electric Cool in Highly Charged. A purple based haul indeed 😀

Unfortunately I can’t say many things about these products because I’ve only tried them. Nevertheless I wanted to write this post in order to show you some swatches and comparison: I hope them to be useful if you can still get some A Novel Romance products or for future repromotes! For example, on MAC Italian site you can still shop A Novel Romance collection and shipping costs are free at the moment.

A Passionate Quest is an eyeshadow quad with all shades leaning towards purple. These are not vibrant, bright shades but they are all deep and a little smoky. Eyeshadows finishes are Satin and Veluxe Pearl, let me say it’s quite hard to find a MAC quad without a Lustre shade! Furthermore, all colours in this quad are well pigmented (latest limitad edition quads lack in colour payoff).

• The Wrong Man (Satin) is a muted light neutral pink with some lavender undertones. Usually this kind of shades are chalky with poor colour payoff but this one has a soft texture and a nice pigmentation though it’s a light shade.
• Serenade (Veluxe Pearl) is a radiant orchid shade, a medium rose with violet and periwinkle duochrome reflects. Good pigmentation and smooth texture. I only have Cattleya from Nabla Cosmetics for comparison but Serenade is more muted and really nothing similar.
• Brazenly (Veluxe Pearl) is a repromote shade. It’s a rich, deep warm plum and a sheen. I thought that could be similar to Nocturnelle but the latter is way cooler.
• Stay Sultry (Satin) is a deep eggplant with navy shimmers. Even though it’s a dark shade is quite smooth but it needs to be built to get maximum colour payoff.

Electric Cool eyeshadow in Highly Charged is a repromote from 2012. Concept is similar to Chanel Illusion d’Ombre eyeshadows since texture is quite similar. Electric Cool eyeshadow’s texture is spongy, not really creamy nor a pressed powder such as L’Oreal Infaillible. Furthermore, texture is more lightweight and finely milled than Chanel Illusion d’Ombre. Highly Charged is a vibrant cool shimmery purple, I’ve always dreamed about a cream eyeshadow in this shade! Colour payoff is excellent especially because purple tones are always so tricky and it doesn’t crease at all. Compared to Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream, Highly Charged is a lot cooler and smoother, so much easier to work with. Well done, MAC.
