MAC Lipstick Collection: all my MAC lipsticks in a row
It’s been a long long time I had in mind to write a post about my MAC lipstick collection. I’ve been appreciating MAC Cosmetics since a long time, I think it was 2005 when I bought my first product and here in Italy there wasn’t any MAC hysteria yet. In my country an obsession for MAC lipsticks spread recently. I’m not surprised at all, since I do think that MAC has the best lipsticks out there at a correct price compared to their quality. Of course, there are various MAC lipsticks with very different finishes. This post is not a guide to *all* MAC lipsticks since I didn’t try all of them. Just my little (?) MAC Lipstick Collection to show you some colours. Are you ready for this galore? These aren’t full reviews, obviously, but I’ll write a single post with a review about each lipstick.
Of course these aren’t all MAC lipsticks I ever owned. Since I use all my products I finished up some: Syrup (Lustre), Creme Cup (Cremesheen), Crème de la Femme (Frost), Fresh Amour (Mattene), Viva Glam Gaga (Lustre), Viva Glam Gaga II (Amplified), Runaway Red (Satin), Overtime (Pro Longwear).
Just some words about the MAC finishes.
- Lustre: glossy finish, sheer pigment (but someone has more pigment in it than others), slightly drying, poor lasting power.
- Cremesheen /Cremesheen Pearl: medium pigment, creamy and shiny finish, average lasting power. Cremesheen Pearl ones contain a little pearl but they don’t look frosty.
- Frost: frosty, metallic finish. My least favourite finish alongside with Lustres.
- Pro Longwear: opaque colour, they adhere to lips creating a sort of ‘plastic’ film. I dislike this feeling on lips, very heavy.
- Glaze (haven’t tried yet): very, very sheer.
- Mineralize (haven’t tried yet): full pigment, very creamy.
- Sheen Supreme (haven’t tried yet): creamy and glossy, medium pigment.
- Dazzle (haven’t tried yet): limited edition, glittery.
- Slimshine (haven’t tried yet): sheer to medium pigment, glossy.
- Mattene: always limited editions. Matte but creamy texture, very comfortable on lips. Full pigment and long lasting.
- Amplified: creamy and moisturizing texture. Full pigment, doesn’t bleed, extremely comfortable to wear. Long lasting.
- Satin: drier texture than Amplified but still comfortable. Full pigment and long lasting. My favourite finish alongide with Mattes.
- Matte: there are two Matte generations. Mattes from first generation (i.e. Diva) are a bit drying and you can experience some issue to get an even result. Mattes from second generation (i.e. Party Parrot) are a lot more comfortable on lips and quite smooth. However I’m a sucker for matte lips and MAC Mattes are the best ones out there. Full opaque coverage and last forever in any condition.
- Retro Matte: a little difficult to work with since they have a dry texture (Ruby Woo has the driest one. You may better use a lip brush) but I personally love them for their completely opaque look. Plus, once you’ve done your lips you can forget about them.
For my MAC Lipstick collection I decided to group them in colour families (or sort of) so you can easily see differences among them.
Nudes / My Lips But Better / Neutrals
- A Perfect Day (Amplified, limited edition): beige with pink undertones, it’s slightly lighter than my natural lip colour but it’s still darken than my complexion so it doesn’t wash me out.
- Faux (Satin, permanent): my most perfect my lips but better, almost identical to my natural lip colour; neutral pink with a touch of earthy tones.
- Twig (Satin, permanent): at least one tone darker than my natural lip colour. Neutral mix of pink and soft brown, looks really natural but a tad deep.
- Craving (Amplified, permanent): it’s a berry colour but it still fits in my lips but better category. A more intense version of my natural lips.
Pinks / Corals
- Sunny Seoul (Cremesheen Pearl, permanent): shiny and slightly pearlized warm pink with a touch of coral. A fuss-free spring lipstick.
- Viva Glam Nicki (Satin, limited edition): neon warm pink, on me it’s more pink than coral. It looks pretty on my NC15 complexion and it can be toned down easily if patted on lips.
- Party Parrot (Matte, limited edition): intense coral, red with warm pink undertones. Great texture not drying at all.
Fuchsia / Purple
- Embrace Me (Matte, limited edition): intense fuchsia with a magenta base.
- Heroine (Matte, permanent): purple with a magenta base, on me it pulls out more magenta than purple.
Both have a great Matte finish (second generation): not too drying and easy to apply. I put them in the same category because of their magenta base.
Pink/Reds
- Red Balloon (Amplified, limited edition): pink with red undertones, almost strawberry.
- Moxie (Retro Matte, limited edition): quite similar to Red Balloon but it has more red in it (and a completely different finish).
They’re both a lot cooler than Party Parrot.
Reds
- Ruby Woo (Retro Matte, permanent): bright, cool red with strong blue undertones. It has the driest texture among all MAC lipsticks so you can find a lot easier to apply it with a lip brush.
- Viva Glam I (Matte, permanent): deep red with a touch of oxblood / brown undertones. It quickly became one of my favourite reds ever. So sultry and classy, perfect for every occasion.
- Diva (Matte, permanent): oxblood red, almost bordeaux. It looks vampy compared to other red lipsticks. Another favourite of mine.
Dark / Vampy
- Rebel (Satin, permanent): it may appear strange seeing Rebel among the darks. It’s not a vampy, really dark lipstick, nevertheless on my lips it looks so much deeper, intense and darker than other purples (Heroine) and berry (Craving).
- Instigator (Retro Matte, limited edition): super dark – I’d dare say goth – purple with warm undertones. Even if it should be a Retro Matte it’s labelled as a Matte but it does have a drier texture than other regular Mattes. It applies surprisingly even compared to other vampy purples.
- Hautecore (Retro Matte, limited edition): as Instigator it’s officially a Retro Matte, labelled as Matte but with the texture of the former finish. I didn’t think I could pull off a matte lipstick so easily. It can look really serious and flattering. Amazing texture, the best black lipstick I’ve tried so far.
che ci fa Red Balloon tra i rosa!
E tu come fai a vivere con due fucsia di cui uno muted, come?!
(lo shock, lo sai XD)
voglio Moxie ._.
